Yellow Numbers

The matt yellow engobe and glossy turquoise glaze work really well together especially over the dark terracotta body that is still visible through the glaze and engobe. The numbers (or letters, or symbols) around the bottom edge have been applied using a stencilling technique that leaves a characteristic sharp edge which is softened by the drawn marks that have been made using an underglaze pencil. A little bit of additional grog has been added to the surface to create an additional textural layer.
